Nitaro has trained in the traditional taiko drumming of various regions of Japan, and has incorporated this knowledge into his performances, compositions, and lessons.
He also serves as a part-time lecturer at the National University Music Department. In addition to teaching at elementary and junior high schools and other educational institutions, he is also working to promote the use and popularity of Japanese drums in the welfare field, such as developing and verifying the effectiveness of a Japanese drum program aimed at preventing dementia in the elderly in collaboration with a university laboratory and industry-academia.
